O ur Chic of the Week is Shelly Negrete from simply.photography by shelly.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a former teacher, a mom to two amazingly perfect little boys, and wifey to my college sweetheart. I have always loved photography and often photographed friends and family members as a favor. I decided December 2010 to take a leap of faith and try it professionally. I dove headfirst and quickly realized that if I didn’t use my camera everyday and capture memories for other families, I would be forever regretful! In June I taught my last day of First Grade and promised myself that I never would teach again. I met my BPFF (best photography friend forever) in January of 2011 and we have been working together ever since! We always shoot together, because frankly it’s more fun! lol! We maintain our business’ separately but share the prettiest little natural light studio we could ever dream of or imagine. My style of photography is light and airy and i LOVE backlight! I love shooting newborns, but my absolute favorite age to photograph is sitting babies and kids. I also love photographing senior girls, they are so excited about what lies ahead of them…it’s contagious! I am so thrilled and honored to be chosen as Chic of the Week!
Image of the week:
I used my 100mm macro lens (my new baby), ISO was set at 1000, aperture at f/3.2, and exposure time was 1/640. I shot this image at my studio, but it was later in the session and we moved back from the windows a bit because the light was a little too harsh on his sweet little face. The image was shot in RAW on my Canon 5DMII and edited in PS5. It’s funny that this image was chosen because it is with a prop that dad brought in. I would have probably taken a very similar shot, just not with the prop, just a simple side view to see the pretty silhouette that i love when i shoot babies! I was very pleased with it though. It doesn’t scream BASEBALL PROP, I think it was a sweet reflection of something that I am sure this little guy and his daddy will enjoy for years to come.
After sharing this image in the Chic Critique Forum, what critique did you find helpful?
Well, there was only one comment on this image and it wasn’t really a critique. Instead it was a sweet message from a forum member about the baseball and it’s simplicity. I think that comment and all of the others that I have received from Chic Critique help me in growing as a photographer. It is always nice to get another point of view for your work. That is why I love Chic Critique so much!!
Congratulations Shelly! You’ve been awarded a gift certificate from one of our vendors for being selected as Chic of the Week!
